Molecular remnant of Nova 1670 (CK Vulpeculae)

CK Vul is the remnant of an energetic eruption known as Nova 1670 that thought to be caused by a stellar merger. The composed (1) large hourglass nebula recombining gas (of 71?? in size), very similar some classical planetary and pre-planetary nebulae (PPNe), (2) much smaller cooler inner prominent millimeter-wave emission from molecules. We investigate three-dimensional spatio-kinematic structure both components. Our analysis yields revised distance object >2.6 kpc, at least 3.7 times greater than previously assumed. At this distance, has bolometric luminosity >12 L ? surrounded molecular material with total mass >0.8 M (the latter value systematic uncertainty). also analyzed architecture using ALMA observations rotational lines obtained subarcsecond resolution. find distribution neutral ionized lobes can reproduced several nested incomplete shells or jets different velocity fields varying orientations. indicates was created ejection episodes, possibly involving interacting binary system. calculated linear momentum (?10 40 g cm s ?1 ) kinetic energy 47 erg) outflows values are within limits typical for PPNe. Given similarities PPNe, we suggest there may analogs among wrongly classified PPNe low intrinsic luminosities, especially post-red-giant-branch central stars.
